Mentors Project of Bibb County selected as organization of the year

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Doctor Martin Luther King Junior Commission in Macon, has selected its organization of the year. The Mentors Project of Bibb County is the recipient.

Macon-Bibb Commissioner Elaine Lucas surprised the Executive Director of the program, June O’Neal, with the award Wednesday.

O’Neal has been with the organization for 24 years, and says the impact of the program has continued to grow over the years.

“We’ve seen amazing children get full ride scholarships to private exclusive schools. We’ve seen children open their own businesses. We’ve seen children become fashion designers. It has been absolutely amazing and wonderful,” said O’Neal.

Since 1990, the Mentors Project has worked to match adults with Bibb county students who are at risk of dropping out.
