Each spring, the Mentors Project of Bibb County gathers to celebrate one of the most inspiring events on our calendar: the annual Achievement Banquet. On May 8, 2025, we honored the achievements of our graduating seniors at Vineville Baptist Church, surrounded by mentors, families, and community supporters who have been integral to their journey.
A Night of Recognition and Inspiration
The Achievement Banquet is more than a ceremony-it’s a testament to the power of mentorship and community. Our graduating protégés have overcome challenges, set ambitious goals, and realized dreams with the steady encouragement of their mentors. This year’s event was filled with heartfelt stories, scholarship presentations, and words of wisdom from community leaders and alumni.

Why Mentorship Matters
Since 1990, the Mentors Project has matched caring adults with at-risk middle and high school students across Bibb County. Our mentors provide guidance, motivation, and support, helping students reach their full academic, social, and personal potential
. The results speak for themselves: nearly 100% of students who graduate with an active mentor go on to post-secondary education or training, becoming productive members of our community
.
Mentorship changes lives. Students in our program report improved academic performance, better relationships, and a more positive outlook on the future. Many credit their mentors with helping them avoid negative influences and inspiring them to give back to others through community service
.
A Growing Impact
Our program has grown from a single school to serving students in nine schools, supported by more than 130 dedicated mentors
. We offer year-round activities, including seminars on college readiness, life skills, and community service projects-each designed to empower students to dream big and achieve their goals
.
Get Involved: The Need is Great
There are still students waiting for a mentor’s guidance. Thirty-six percent of freshmen in Bibb County public schools do not graduate with their class, highlighting the urgent need for more mentors
. Just four hours a month can make a lifelong difference in a young person’s life. As June O’Neal, our Executive Director, reminds us: “We want our children to be equipped to be successful, and we are calling our community to stand up and show up for the children”
.
